A major breakthrough in human embryonic stem cells ethical issues

Stem Cell from Skin cells

A new Stem cell technique – A major breakthrough in human embryonic stem cells ethical issues.

Information from a five year research project was revealed to the UK National Stem Cell Network during a meeting held in Nottingham in the UK.

Work using stem cells continues to advance , however, many scientist say that advancement could be quicker if the issues relating to the use of human embryonic stem cells  could be resolved. The issues may well be other due to this new research. The skin from patients with Parkinson’s disease can be used to grow the brain cells that cause the disease. The skin cells will be genetically treated  which will enable them to turn into stem cells. These cells will have the same attributes as cells found in embryos and in theory will have the power to grow into any part of the human body.

This is a major discovery as it simply means that no human embryos will be used and so destroyed. This news is great news for people with Parkinsons disease as it should open doors to new treatments. As the human race continues to live longer and longer it is thought that Parkinson’s could become the most common brain disease in the UK, currently about 120,000 people are already living with the disease. It is anticipated that Richard Wade-Martins, head of the Oxford Parkinson’s Disease Centre, is planning to see if he can ask over a thousand patients with the early stages of Parkinsons, to help him with his research. He said that the new stem cell technology will allow them to research dopamine neurons  from the patients and all this can be done by taking a skin sample.
