Cancer is a disease that does not happen because you are rich or poor, you fight against it by eating the correct foods and not abusing your body. However, it can strike a person down at any time, and only yesterday Michael Douglas discussed his fight against throat cancer, last night on the David Letternman Show. This was the first time that Douglas, 65, had talked about his cancer in public.

Douglas explained his treatment which consisted of traditional methods including radiation treatment and chemotherapy. He went on to explain that he chances of a full recovery was high, the cancer has been classified as type 4 throat cancer, which he believes was caused by drinking and smoking.

He said that he had about eight weeks of treatment ahead of him, but he didn’t think at this stage he would need any surgery. He explained that one of the biggest worries with the disease was how it can spread, but as of now it was contained in his throat. He then went on to say that his wife, actress Catherine Zeta-Jones had been very supportive.

Douglas is still busy on the acting front and the sequel to the smash hit Wall Street, Money Never Sleeps, is soon to hit the screens. The sequel sees Douglas continuing his role as the money obsessed Gordon Gekko .
